At the members meeting on 2014-12-03, the matter of the workshop being repeatedly left in a mess was brought up. Among other ideas to help reduce this problem, periodic orientation workshops for new members were suggested - the idea being to foster various positive behaviours and help shape the culture of new members as they start to use the space.

Format

Small groups of new members would arrange to meet with one or more established members. The workshop might take the form of an extended tour of facilities with details omitted from the open night tours.

Possible Activities

  • Extended tour of facilities
  • Q & A about the contents of the handbook / safe spaces policy
  • Taking out the trash / recycling (finding the dumpsters, using the lift)
  • Getting suggestions from new members about how they'd like to improve the space and even implementing them!
  • Guide to running an event at the hackspace
  • Perhaps doing a bit of hack-the-space type work / cleaning
  • Eating food!

Volunteers Wanted

If anyone is interested in running these workshops, or has suggestions for other content / improvements; edit this page!
