Nottingham Hackspace only exists because of volunteers. Members (and sometimes non-members) put in a huge amount of time every month to ensure the smooth running the Hackspace.

If you want to donate some of your time to the Hackspace, but are not sure what you can do, simply pick something from the list on this page! Some of these jobs you can just do, some have timeframes and some will need a little bit a work before you can start. The Hackspace needs you and is grateful for any time you can give!

The jobs are arranged into five categories:

  • All the time: These jobs always need doing, probably repeatedly
  • Anytime: These jobs don't have a specific time
  • One off: These jobs will happen once, probably at a specific time
  • Repeating: These jobs will happen repeatedly
  • Groups: Groups are responsible for certain areas of the hackspace and always need new members

All the Time

This list of tasks always need doing - it doesn't really matter when they were last done, they need doing again.

  • Clearing out the fridge and pantry of expired food
  • Hoover workshop
  • Sweep electronics bench
  • Clean toilets
  • Tidy blue room
  • Tidy studio
  • Tidy comfy area

Anytime

  • Organising the media area in the comfy area so that the cables, computers, game systems and peripherals are easy to get to and put away

One Off

Green Festival

This has now finished. Leaving the title here as an example of what goes in this category

Repeating

Open Night Tours

Every Wednesday is open night, and we get between 2 and 20 visitors every Wednesday. Anyone can do a member tour. Simply turn up on a Wednesday and talk to the people already doing tours - they can talk you through what to cover.

Hack the Space

Every first Sunday of the month is Hack the Space. Members get together and help make the space better. There are tasks for all skill levels. It runs from 11am, feel free to put in an hour, a couple of hours or all day. You can just turn up and someone will give you a job!

Members Meeting

Every first Wednesday of the month is the open members meeting. This is where the majority of space governance happens, and we always need people to come along and throw in their opinions and help with tasks that come out of the meeting. It starts at 8pm in the blue room and normally lasts an hour. Everyone is welcome, you can simply turn up.

Groups

Consumables

The consumables groups look after all those things in the space that we need again and again - from toilet roll to stanley knife blades. If you are interested in helping out, shout up in this thread on the google group

Tools

The tools group is starting to look at all our tools to see what we need and what needs replacing. If you would like to help, contact Joe

Safety

The safety team page is at Safety_Team.

Please _do_ get involved via the mailing list.

Communications

The communications group look after our outward facing presence, such as our website, newsletter, twitter and facebook. More details can be found at Group:Communications
