- Long Shots - Another one soon perhaps. A few people are away until mid April so probably wait for that. The first session went really well. It's currently a campaign group, but hoping to do more of these longer games. One Shot Wonders normally have to finish within a few hours.
Andrew did some fancy dancing while the tour went through.
Dee is planning to run a linoprinting workshop soon. There will also be another "Build an Arduino" workshop soon. Hopefully also a digitising workshop for the embroidery machine soon too.
Steve has written an excellent blog post for our website. Combat Robotics in the Hackspace. It's great. If you also want to write a blog post please discuss in the comms channel on Discord. Blog Club on the Wiki. We'll try and get a regular event running on Discord which will make this more visible. Thanks Gareth and Thanks Steve!
JonW asks Gareth if he's up for doing another Solography workshop. We have lots of cans and photo paper to use. We'll also need to do a scanning session for our previous one. Exciting!
Steve mentions there's a robot event on the 25th of April. Sam, Becky and Steve are going down - you can camp, drink cider and play with robots. They're planning to combine these robots as a cluster so if you want to drive a robot feel free to join.
Actions and Minutes
Minutes are on the Wiki - we don't think there are any actions.
Happenings
There was a Men in Sheds visit, and we think a few people have already signed up. Trying to get people to come in every Thursday at approx 10am - Avenues followed by woodworking. Thanks to Ian for organising, and Edgar and Eddie for showing them around.
May 2025 Election
Formally announced next weekend. The nomination window will open on the 19th of April. Betty, Aaron and Edgar's terms will end.
Eddie has submitted his resignation, so we will need at least five nominations.
Normally a separate election would be required for Eddies position. The trustees have voted aye on 3.4 of the Constitution which will allow the two elections to be done at the same time. A more detailed email will be sent about Eddie's resignation tomorrow.
Thank you to Eddie for his time as a trustee - he did a lot of work to improve the woodworking area.
Gareth has made a very nice poster. Thank you Gareth!
Membership Team
We need more people helping with tours please! 🥺 Nick and Andrew shadowed the tour tonight. Thank you to these excellent people for offering to help with this.
All teams need more help really, it's always nice to spread the effort as much as possible. Hack the Space Days are a good way to get involved with this too.
Some discussion about other areas of the space - AndrewW shows support for closing certain areas if we don't have members to take care of it.
Team Updates
Anything from any teams?
If you have requests for resources please post in the relevant channel on Discord.
Financial Updates
Take with a grain of salt because done by Aaron who doesn't know what he's doing 🙂 They are marked as draft for now.
Some discussion around "Membership Payments" being listed twice, once under "Donations" (the voluntary part), and once not indented (the required £5 portion).
Downstairs Vending Machine
Tj has a vending machine which he offered to donate to the space, possibly for downstairs.
Aaron mentions that the snackspace team is quite small and that there might not be enough people to keep it stocked, but also mentions that the chiller might be compatible with our current drinks vending machine.
TJ's is a snack vending machine which is good for small parts in envelopes etc. Swapping the chillers might be a good option.
Classroom
Gareth has spoken a bit about this on Discord but would like to put a project together for rethinking the classroom as an art space. The reasons that this might beneficial are that a slightly wetter area for painting etc. There could be a partition for pottery stuff which can then be fired up at the pottery place in Sherwood. More room for screen printing, drying shelves, etc would be really beneficial.
There was a situation a couple of weekends ago with leaving stuff out to dry and it getting sawdust etc on it can be problematic.
Gareth also says that changing the use of the space might be difficult due to lack of water etc, but it's worth talking about. For example a few months ago someone was varnishing wood in the studio. They cleaned up after etc but it was a bit inconvenient to have stuff drying in the studio. It was sad to see the classroom being used as a bit of a spare room / dumping ground for metalworking stuff.
People seem to be supportive of this idea.
It will be difficult to use as a classroom anyway when metalworking is down there.
Figuring out water is a challenge.
Andrew H and Shane ask why can't we swap the Blue Room and the Classroom? And then turn the current blue room into an art space. We already have water in here.
The Blue Room has a standard domestic macerator which might not be suitable for a lot of things done in a wet space.
Gareth says that an advantage of it being in the classroom is that it's at the end of thebuilding which means less mess will get carried through the building by people passing through.
Any Other Business
No one says anything 🙂
