The bandsaw was acquired by the Space in June 2024.

It is only suitable for cutting wood. When used it should be connected to the mobile dust extractor.

Consumables

The machine takes 88 inch blade.

Usage

Wear proper personal protection equipment (PPE) when using a band saw, including safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection, and a dust mask. Never wear gloves, a tie, loose clothing, or jewellery (necklace, watch, rings, etc.) when using a band saw. Tie long hair back or secure under a cap.

The mobile dust extractor should be fitted to the bandsaws 100mm out vent before cutting, as build of dust inside the lower blade chamber is a fire risk (use the magnetic connectors - they are designed to be quick).

Clear the saw table of all materials and objects before starting the band saw.

Keep hands and fingers at least two inches from the band saw blade. Use a push stick when cutting small workpieces. Use the fence and mitre fence to guide your pieces through. Use the wooden fence against the aluminium fence when needing to cut thinner slices.

Never start the band saw with the workpiece against the blade.

Cutting round objects in an orientation that could allow the work to be spun/rotated by the band saw blade is dangerous, holding the workpiece by hand is not safe, use a jig (your fingers are precious!)

Hold the workpiece firmly and feed it smoothly at a moderate speed when cutting, let the blade do the work. Never force a workpiece. If the workpiece does not feed smoothly, turn the band saw off and back the workpiece away from the jammed or uncompleted cut.

Turn off the band saw and wait for the blade to stop before cleaning the band saw table and floor area after use.

Turn off the band saw and disconnect the power source prior to making saw adjustments, changing accessories, or making repairs.

Clean the band saw table and work area upon completion of the sawing task using a workshop vacuum.
