Risk	Mitigations
Minor burns due to tooling or work piece heating up.	Users of these tools should be aware of how quickly heat can accumulate in tooling or the workpiece. Coolant should be used if available and appropriate. Training at a local college is required before you may use these tools.
Electrical Shock due to damaged cabling or poor earthing.	Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is performed according to a schedule. A visual inspection of the appliance should take place prior to use of the equipment.
Bodily Injury due to distraction, long clothing, improper PPE, jewellery, etc.	Training at a local college is required prior to using these tools. This training will explain the risks and danger with using such tools. Ensure the area is free from distractions - ignore other members trying to talk to you until the machine is in a safe state (i.e. powered off). Ensure that appropriate PPE is worn, namely safety glasses. Gloves must not be worn while operating such machinery. Ensure sleeves are rolled up and out of the way. Ensure hair is tied back. Ensure watches, bracelets, necklaces, and rings are removed. Avoid using the tools at night when people are not around.
Fire due to oily swarf not being cleaned up appropriately.	A fire safe swarf bin is provided in the metalworking. Swarf must be removed and safely disposed of into this bin.
Cuts due to sharp edges before or after milling / turning.	Ensure care is taken when removing parts from machinery. Wear gloves and use appropriate tools while removing milling / turning tools - ensure machinery is powered off and in a safe state first.
