Risk Mitigations
Distraction from other hackspace members, resulting in risk of injury due to lack of concentration. Make sure area is clear from other users and sources of distraction.
PPE not being used, resulting in personal injury due to debris and flying particles / material. Appropriate and adequate quantities of the required PPE for using electric hand tools and the associated processes are kept in stock for users. PPE to include respiratory/dust masks and goggles when needed. If an injury occurs, first aid boxes are available and an incident form to be completed on Google document.

Use of eye of appropriate eye protection, Mandatory use of dust extarction system while the toool is in use, engage the Dusty are room air filter while working, Do not swich it off if other people if other tools are in use. Wear an apprpriate dust mask for prolonged use.
Incorrect Use of equipment due to lack of experience, resulting in risk of injury. Members should be aware of their limitations and ask for help if they are unsure about how to use the equipment. If an injury occurs, first aid boxes are available and an incident form to be completed on Google document.

An induction is required to use this tool, this will cover the safety precautions and ensure you are comfortable using the tool. A saw fence and saw guard are installed on the table cutter and must not be removed. If a user is thinking about removing either of these, they are probably using the wrong tool for the job and should instead look at using the router, or asking other members for advice.
Sharp Edges on material before or after cutting, resulting in a risk of cutting skin. Users instructed on safe working practice with sharp cut edged materials during their induction. If an injury occurs, first aid boxes are available and an incident form to be completed on Google document
Electric Shock Equipment is to have an up to date PAT test, actioned annually by the estates team. Machinery which fails is to have plugs removed and notice placed on it while awaiting repair or removal from the studio. Machinery is not to be plugged in over, through or next to a water source (which was actioned in the room layout planning during the move to new premises at Derby Road – with placement of fire bricked surface). Electrical equipment should be visually inspected by the member prior to each use.
Fire due to embedded metal (e.g. nails) causing sparks and being sucked into the dust extraction. Fire extinguishers are made available to ensure you can exit the area in the event of a fire. A handheld metal detector is available in the dusty area which should be used to check suspicious material. Material which is known to be an issue, such as pallet wood, must not be cut in the hackspace.
