Who even is dee, anyway?

Deanna M F Midnight is the newest trustee at the hackspace, having been elected in November 2024. They are a queer, nonbinary, autistic 38 year old.

What does Dee do?

At the hackspace

Their main focus is on 3 things equally:

1) Repairing, maintaining and building musical instruments

2) RPGs and Gaming

3) Community activities, such as group meals and hack the space days.

Outside the hackspace

Outside of the hackspace, Dee spends their time either working with dogs, teaching art workshops, or playing in several bands and orchestras.

What does Dee intend to bring to the hackspace in the future?

From their initial nomination statement:

Historically, there haven’t been many disabled, women, or nonbinary trustees and a great deal of my motivation for standing in this election is to see that change. With a more diverse set of trustees, we will get to see a wider range of voices heard in decision making processes and a broader group of people served by the space. With a more diverse cast of people in leadership positions, the space stands to expand its appeal, which means a wider and more diverse knowledge base to share, and a greater number of people able and willing to support the continued existence and growth of the space.

As a trustee, I’d hope to help to oversee the continued flourishing of membership. I’d also love to encourage people from under-represented communities to come and try out the space, and to work towards making the space accessible to as many people as possible.

Alongside appealing to new members, Dee hopes to help to foster a greater sense of community through communal meals prepared at the space, and regular social events for under-represented and marginalised sections of the membership base.
