Messages from 3d printing Team

In response to problems that have occurred recently and to ensure the smooth running of the 3d area in the future, guidelines will be posted in the 3d area. see below unattended printing. The enders are suitable for this as they have firmware that detects overheating and I will fit sensors to detect if filament has run out. I may need to upgrade the motherboards to do this.

To resolve the overnight printing issue I would like the space to purchase a fire resistant enclosure rrp £55.

Proposed guidelines from 3D printing Team Guidelines for using the 3d printing area at nottinghack

1) Do not hack printer hardware or software

2) Do not run the printers beyond recommended speeds/heat settings

3) Do not remove filament or sd cards that don’t belong to you

4) Remove prints within 10 minutes of prints finishing. If you cannot do this please do not print

5) Remove your filament and sd card once your printing is done and tidy up your area

6) 1 member using 2 or more printers at the same time is not permitted.

7)Do not use the printers to create illegal items, weapons or “adult toys” . Cosplay weapons/nerf are allowed

8) No using the printers in a way that causes damage, inconvenience to others or brings the space into disrepute.

9)The space does not guarantee the availability of printers

10) No unattended prints longer than 7 hours (ultimaker has separate rules)

11) No overnight unattended printing until safeguards are put in place

Notes from Slack by Mike Questions. Problem DNH not being respected, Is there a difference between the 3d area or anywhere else in the space?

Problem - how to manage donated filament ?

Fair Use. Problem. Should there be a max duration for prints? Ultimaker is currently 12hrs, so this could be extended to other printers if they are card access controlled.

Problem: Should members be able to use multiple printers? (Print Farming?)

Problem: Booking. Should users be able/required to book to use printers. Requires card access.

Problem: Removal and storage of printed items from printers Should members be at a printer when it finishes to remove print? If/How to remove and store prints when the owner is not present.

Problem SD cards and connecting computers to the printers Do we require users to bring their own SD cards?
