Purpose

It was noted during a semi-informal membership discussion (June 2024) that new members might benefit from some contact after their initial induction tour. McMullet (talk) volunteered to draft a generic message to be sent out after a month.

SUBJECT LINE: GREETINGS FROM NOTTINGHACK!
Dear [member],

Thank you for recently joining Nottingham Hackspace.

The Hackspace is an exciting place with lots to offer. Even if you have not decided what you want to do here yet, there's always something interesting going on and plenty of people to meet.

During your first visit we tried to provide lots of information and show you as many things as we could, but we know it is almost impossible for us to show you everything and tough for you to remember it all, so we like to reach out to new members.

The best way to learn more about the space is to come in person, and a great time to visit is when other folks are around for an event:

  • Wednesday Night is Members Night! We try to spend time in the space and, if we can stop chatting, find time to work on our projects.
  • Find out about our upcoming events on the Nottingham Hackspace Discord "Events" channel.
  • You're now a Hackspace member so drop in whenever you want and enjoy the space.

We understand it's easy to forget all the info from your tour, so here are some reminders:

  • All of the information you need to access the space should be accessible through HMS now that you're a member.
  • There is a wealth of information on the space and its facilities on the Nottinghack wiki.
  • You can chat directly to other members and find out about the space on our Discord server.
  • There is also information in the members' guide and especially the FAQ.
  • You can remind yourself of the rules here.

If you have any other queries, then please either ask on Discord or email the membership team by replying to this message.

We hope to see you around soon!

Best wishes,

The Nottinghack community

Notes

Follow up messages are to be sent once a week, on a Wednesday, to all members who joined (i.e., first payment received) in the last 4 weeks and haven't been banned.

Mostly added to HMS, waiting for merge/deploy. It'll run every day at 11am, and set to run for members who joined "on this day" two weeks ago (can be adjusted later if we decide 2 weeks is too short), and checks to make sure they are a current member. - Aaron (Asj, talk)

The messages will have to be sent by a trustee for privacy reasons.

The reply-to address will be the membership team.

This will be the case :) - Aaron (Asj, talk)
