Attending:
- Aaron, Andrew A, Graham, James, Colette, Betty, Steve B, JonW, Mike Haber, .
Workshops suggested:
- Betty - Vinyl cutting and t-shirt printing workshops are possible. Also some sewing maybe with Treadle machine.
- Aaron - Soldering workshop for Tildagon. Hex function.
- Graham - could add USB to it possibly
- Steve - robot battles (for kids, unbreakable controllers!)
- Steve - badge workshop can be used as a controller for robots
- Graham - Can ask if we can have spare badges for the workshop
- May be we can use a Tildagon addon to do for controlling - will be checked out perhaps
- Andrew, Steve, Duncan - and anyone else interested - running roleplaying
- Mike H - Workshop for kids. Draw how they'd make toast.
- Duncan (suggested, but we'll rotate people) - Post-Workshops Social Space
- Betty - Morning might be nice to open the tent for breakfast time. This may include some stuff if someone is interested in setting it up but no full pop-up cafe (Mike cannot make it for Friday morning)
- Note the attendance may vary so is it worth having things for self-service?
- Maybe light things like boxes of cereal and milk and tea/coffee
Workshop notes:
- We need to make sure at least 2 people cover workshops generally - payments especially can take a while
- Will note on the main page all the specs (people amount, ticketed or not, payment charges, descriptions)
From last ones if we wanted to run again:
- Arduino workshop could be done with cheaper units, see Graham for ideas (Duncan ran this last time) - was theramin
- Tie dying - great but overran so more time allocated, and should have charged more
- Solargraphy - potentially lots of cans left over
Do an inventory of what we have:
- Old badges for EMF - Take and see if they won't want them back, can give them away
- Check what else we have for our list of things to take
Shop:
- Dee volunteered to organise but is busy until new year, we can discuss further when she's available, it was stressed it needs someone to plan it properly (what is sold/no cash/payments) and likely involve shifts and closure of it when no one is available
Village:
- Graham: Idea for worlds tallest LED strip - 400 amps of power supply available for a big tower maybe tied to something like a radio tower? It's potentially very expensive and possibly will fall down.
- Get community additions to what is shown
- Train Departure Board is too big but is an inspiring thing if we can take something similar
- James - Giant scaled up display for a big Game Boy or similar
- Mike - Manual games of skill - fairground games, throwing and catching things. Old school fairground attractions etc.
- Throwing bean bags - maybe catapulted?
- Mike - "Nottinghack By The Sea" as a theme
- Colette - Matchboat games or similar small games?
- Steve - Car or robot with camera on somewhere else you control.
- Graham - Scalextrics - Steve suggests can only see from the cars view is an idea too.
- Suggested more physical based things to interact with is awesome. Graham relates a bubble machine with fog inside was really popular with kids (even compared to flamethrowers)
- Graham's machine might be available - it's a box but just needs to be controlled to not go dry (note no colours it stains things if so!). Might be available since Null Sector will be themed.
Volunteering at EMF:
- Much better and easier now to sign up for shifts, can get meals from the meal tent for a shift
- Running a workshop is not the same (no meal ticket) but takes a lot of time so only volunteer if you feel
At the event to do:
- Do a Google doc for "things we do at EMF" so we can record stuff that goes wrong and right for next time
Actions:
- Generate some interest around physical machines "Nottinghack by the Sea" themed
- Threads on the discord to discuss
Next meeting will be January since December is Christmas week.
