I'm Seb. Day job involves mechanical design on jet engines, and figuring out what screwed up first when an engine decides to melt a bearing or spit blades all over the floor.

Areas of Interest / Mild Expertise

  • Skateboarding
  • Drumming & Percussion
  • Mechanical Keyboards
  • Loudspeakers
  • Solid Modelling (Solidworks, Catia), 3D sketching
  • Woodworking
  • Metalworking
  • Bookbinding
  • TIG welding
  • Cars (particularly Air-cooled VWs, Type 4 Engines)
  • Race Car design
  • Combustion Engines
  • Powertrain
  • Formula Student (Previously a competitor, Currently Scrutineer & Design Judge)

Projects

Completed Projects

Name Description Images
Sliding Gloves Heavy-Duty sliding gloves for downhill skateboarding. Made from leather welding gauntlets and 10mm nylon sheet. Nylon was attached by melting the reverse side with a blowtorch and pressing to the glove.
Bedside table With integrated USB charging ports and mains sockets. Made fron oversize weathered timber for a 'Railyway sleeper' type effect. Complete
Shoe & Skateboard Rack 4 staggered shoe shelves, rack for 6 skateboards and 2 hockey sticks.
Chopping Board With gravy / crumb catching slot. Made from scrap timber.

Active Projects

Name Description Images
4 foot Floorstanding Loudspeakers Hi-Fi Loudspeakers based around a 12" bass driver and a 5" Tweeter. In Progress
Rotary Subwoofer A complete redesign of the Thigpen TRW-17. A variable-pitch fan will create sound by oscillating the blade angle at the desired frequency. This will permit the speaker to produce sub-audible frequencies at very high sound pressure levels compared to a conventional cone driver. Amplification will be via an existing Quad 44 monoblock valve amplifier.
Chip Amp Power Audio Ampifier using LM3886 National Semiconductor Opamps. In Progress
ErgoDox Keyboard Mechanical Keyboard split into two halves for ergonomics. In Progress
Tilt-Shift Lens Mechanical Keyboard split into two halves for ergonomics. In Progress

Future Projects

  • Glass-Top Coffee Table, Possibly with MAME arcade
  • MESS, possibly RPi based
  • LED lights for a cruiser skateboard
  • Cajón (South American percussive box)
  • Rack Mount Linear Power Supply
  • Back To The Future inspired Alarm Clock
  • Stepper motor window blind opener (Possibly Arduino?)
  • Ring-Light for Microphotography
  • Tilt-Shift lens for a 35mm SLR based on a medium format lens
  • Hexagonal or Square LED perspex art thing
  • Weather Station
  • Shower Hook / Shelf
  • Update Old Telephone with modern electronics
  • Keyboard / Keypad using mechanical switches for launching specific applications
  • Microscope Camera Adapter
  • Remote Camera Shutter with Timer
  • Book shelf for office
