Announcements and Events

  • Radio Group: is still happening, various topics come up. Maybe there should be an organised topic? The problem is Aaron's intrest in radio resembles a sine wave and at the moment he is at a lower point. We need a critical mass.
  • OSW: Sylvan is running a game soon, 25th of September. No details of what game as yet.
  • Film Night: Not done it in ages. We should watch Robot Dreams. Pencilled in for the 26th of September, time TBC.
  • Wiki Cleanup: Shane did the last one remotely. It's very useful when people shout out about old things they've seen on the wiki, it feels more targeted which is good.
  • Code Time: Not sure if it happened last month? Hasn't escalated to a regular event just yet. Should be the fourth wednesday of this month.
  • Long Shots: Probably the weekend of the 27-28th. Not confirmed yet.

Upcoming Events

Dee is going to run a cyanotype event soon - this involves using a photo sensitive dye and exposing with UV light, and it makes intresting images. Bring yourself and things that cast an intresting shadow. You can also print b/w negatives and make a photo with the cyanotype.

Dee is going to try and start "art club" in the new year, monthly art tryout session.

Actions and Minutes of the Last Meeting

None?

Happenings

LGBT+ Social - Dee would like to do these quarterly. We are going to watch a happier film next time.

Aaron and Jon collected some flip dot displays and four LED matrix displays. What is the plan for them?

Aaron wants to put discord messages per hour in small displays in the space.
Shall we put one in the Blue Room?
Can we have one that displays upcoming events?

Betty has a treadle sewing machine to refurbish, it is fun because it doesn't need electricity

We have an ice maker. It's pretty cool 🧊

Metalworking Downstairs

Lighting is nearly-ish-done, I keep having to fiddle about getting parts. No help needed just yet, but will be needed after lighting.

Tryst is making the welding interlock box.

There are a few things that need done that aren't electrical. I'm going to write the critical path down on the wiki so it's not just in my head.

Minor Consumables Diversion

Diversion into talking about keeping consumables stocked up - we aren't making enough money in order to be able to replenish consumables.

Can we have people contribute their own packs? FizzPop tried it, but it didn't work well.

People giving an extra amount a month, even only 50p, would really help toward us being able to restock.

Team Updates

3D Printing

We've given away two out of the three enders. One still to be collected. Grafana display for all the printers. The Ender5 has been Klipperised, Steve is going to see how well he can tune it. Klipper gets us Input Shaper. We might be doing another group order of filament soon. (Andrew is a filament broker, not a dealer.)

Laser

Still being a bit persnickerty - we are investigating issues with uneven cutting across the bed. Emily thinks it may be because the tube is too low.

Craft

Everything is in order, the sewing machines are back. We might have some new machines soon, which will mean some machines will be retired, and we would like to offer these to the membership. We need to decide what the fate of the industrial machine is - it's problematic. Pledge drive for a replacement? May be able to get a used good condition one for £200. Need to discuss more in craft

Woodworking

The dusty area has been left quite messy on a number of occasions. The router table had been misused/broken recently, and this wasn't reported. The woodworking team are getting disheartened by this, as it is getting in the way of improving things. Are we not effectively communicating an environment where people feel they can report tools because they are worried about consequences? Can we find ways to encourage / recognise those that are going above and beyond?

Financials

No update as yet

AOB

Neon sign is not here yet. The glass has been ordered. Our sign will hopefully appear on their instagram @southwalesneon
