We've had a power cut but we'll try.

Announcements and Events

  • Hack the Space day this weekend, Saturday 5th of October. An email was sent about the space effectively being closed as this can make it difficult to clean the hackspace.
  • Radio Group on the 2nd Wednesday, 9th of October. Starting around 7pm
  • One Shot Wonders - Game on the 17th, not sure of the game yet. Someone has suggested something about a sausage heist
  • Film Night at some point, keep an eye on Discord events.
  • Ukulele night on the 10th of October
  • Wiki Cleanup will be on the third Wednesday, roughly 7pm. Discord and in the space. Help improve the Wiki 🙂
  • Combat Robots there was a meetup last Wednesday, maybe there will be another one soon? Gareth mentions there may be some discussion about trying to do something a bit more regularly.

Emily is running a workshop on Saturday the 12th of October which will be about processing fabrics on the laser cutter. This can be booked via Eventbrite, still some spaces available.

The open day will be on the 27th of October. There's an advertisement on the Left Lion website for this, probably need to spread the word a bit on social media etc. Bring your projects if you'd like to put them on display. There should also be some combat robot stuff. Hopefully have people around the space to talk about stuff. Ideas for events and workshops are welcome.

A couple of other things:

  • PAT Testing - We've mentioned it before but need to do some PAT testing. It's not a very difficult thing to do, we have a handbook and the machine. If anyone is interesting helping with PAT testing please let us know.
  • Solvents and other Chemicals - Generally speaking we want people to take solvents / chemicals home as they are difficult to dispose of. There is a solvents cabinet upstairs but a lot of misc solvents / sprays are being left on large project storage shelves. Please leave them in the solvents cabinet.
  • PCB Etching equipments - Does anyone still want this stuff around? It's difficult to clean up and there have been accidents. Jason mentions (as they're in the electronics team) that it isn't worth it given how cheap it is, and the mess that can be caused by it.

Actions from Last Meeting

Nothing 🙂

Happenings

  • We put sixty balloons in the air for radio 🎈 It was very fun.
  • We went for a nice walk around Attenborough Nature Reserve.
  • We had a film night. Watched Color out of Space.
  • One Shot Wonders last week.
  • There was a robot meetup last week. Couple of new people showed up.

Metalworking Downstairs

There needs another coat of paint on the new wall, but not much else to report unfortunately.

Team Updates

Networking: Mail and web server (andromeda) has been upgraded and moved to a new (slightly cheaper) cloud provider.

Tools: Steve has kindly organised and identified all of the keyless chucks we needed. They have all arrived. Three have been brought in so far and one has been installed so far. Hopefully do the rest at hack the space day.

CNC: CNC is working again, we got new brushes for the spindle as it stopped working.

Woodworking: Table saw inductions are now sort of starting again, bit of knowledge sharing between some trustees. Everyone that has requested an induction has been contacted. A new blade for the table saw blade has also been ordered. Phil has offered to help with inductions on planer/thicknesser and/or table saw.

Phil has offered some tools which we should discuss. Chris made it clear that we will not take loans due to previous issues. One of the things is a donation, Startrite bandsaw, it's a three phase machine.
Bob clarifies that he has been ill for some time and unable to get into the space. We did recently buy a machine which needs some work, so this donation might be useful while that one is out of order. The one which purchased from Men in Sheds is good but we could do with another.
We'd be grateful to receive the bandsaw. Thank you Phil! We will figure out the logistics

(The power seems to have come back on)

Workshops

Just mentioning again that we'd like to do more workshops. Ideas always welcome, we'll happily help organise and advertise.

There are also some supplies left over from EMF workshops which we might want to do something with.

Financial Update

We don't have one this month (yet).

Worth also pointing people to Mike's PowerBI thing for the hackspace. https://mikehaber.co/hackspace

Any Other Business

Bob asks about AGM. We'll probably use The Carousel again, and try and get a quote for this soon. It'll be in early December. It was nice to do it last year. Quorum will be quite high this year, if you can't make it please nominate a proxy.

Probably leave it there for tonight. Sorry for the darkness. Power seems to be coming back now 🎉
