Announcements and Events
- One Shot Wonders - Candice is running a game. Thursday 19th Feb.
- Film Night - Would be nice to plan one soon! Maybe the 27th. But we have not picked a film yet.
- Coffee and CAD - Third Wednesday of each month. Still going, although Andrew is currently away so you need to organise something fun yourself.
- EMF Camp Planning Workshop - Last Wednesday evening of month
- Art Club - Third of Fourth Saturday this month. The first one was great, people seemed to have a good time. There are lots of cleaning things planned for the next hack the space day. This month we'll be playing with different types of inks.
- Hack the Space Day - This weekend - Sunday 8th February. There is a big todo list. Anyone is welcome to edit the todo list, or you can ask on Discord and get some feedback. It's nice to have a big list before the day so people can pick something up straight away. There will be breakfast at 10:30
Ideas for events are always welcome. Trustees will help organise, lots of people can help with advertising them / making posters etc.
Actions and Minutes from the last Meeting
no actions, but the minutes are now published.
Happenings
Art Club was very fun according to Shane. Dee gives Shane some moral support about the quality of his art.
Team Updates
Metalworking
Tony mentions it would be good to try and do some PAT testing while shifting tools. The things we have moved down are 3p which adds some complexity to the testing.
- Steve mentions that moving and PAT testing / setup are quite different, so we should focus on moving stuff.
AJ is confident they can finish the wiring for the welders during Hack the Space Day.
- Curtains and extraction also need setting up.
- Shane mentions there's a lot of stuff downstairs generally, and questions whether it's safe to have welding live.
- AJ says maybe it's not, so we'll figure out the timing once HtSd is over.
We can also move a bandsaw down if there is time. This is the bandsaw purchased for woodworking but was never used due to the need for 3p cabling. It will become a metalworking bandsaw.
Infrastructure
Card reader in progress for the welding. It's shiny and metal.
There's also a heater working in the Classroom now. And in the Blue Room and Electronics, and Laser and Studio. Also soon the Comfy Area and Craft Room
Art
We forgot to mention last time that there is now an Art Team
Gareth will post the plans for the Art Room so people can see it and get excited.Extra members are welcome to the team 🙂
Networking
There was a power outage which broke a few things. We have purchased some UPSs, which we haven't installed yet because it will cause downtime.
Woodworking
There's a new motor for the table saw. There was an excess flange which they didn't wish to grind off. AJ will get a spacer made on the work plasma cutter.
Nathan has also drawn up a new riving knife for the table saw, which is nice.
Shane asks "Did anyone know there is an air filter in the Dusty Area?"
- Some people did, but the remote was broken. Anyway, it now turns on with the lights. Maybe when the air quality monitors are installed we use that to turn on air filter.

Safety
There have been at least two fire alarms going off in the space. One of which someone called the fire brigade out, and they were quite angry that the fire panel was behind a shutter door.
- Anyway, if the alarm is going off, you should get out
- We might email them about this, although it's likely the fire brigade will speak to them about it.
There are already some restrictions on the types of chemicals allowed in the solvents cabinet. We are hoping to clarify explicitly what is allowed in the cabinets, maybe with a poster on the cabinet.
- Related, AJ has donated a nice solvents cabinet which is currently in upstairs members storage. This is for team chemicals, like IPA for the laser. We'll probably move this to the workshop with a separate key safe.
Discussion around something HMS-specific for COSHH. This meeting probably isn't the place to discuss the specifics.
Trustees
There were a couple of small rule changes. Nothing significant has changed but some things have moved around.
- Rule 0 is now "Do not be unsafe"
- Rule 6 is now "Prohibited Activities" rather than "UK Legislation"
- Lone Working Policy has become an appendix.
Sam's health and safety policy will become an appendix (Thank you Sam)
Safety Report
We are very bad at remembering to do a walk around the space.
Metalworking Downstairs
Thank you AJ!
Lots of lights and sockets have been installed. Lots of 13A sockets, so many.
Financial Update
Matt has been automating the financial reporting, the current one is still kind of draft.
Any Other Business
Tony asks about the additional stuff needed to move things.
- We'd like Matt to be involved in the Bridgeport move.
- We may want to hire some equipment to do some of the moves.
- AJ might be able to acquire some equipment for lifting things.
