We want to get a report from out treasurer.
8:10
Gareth: It’s a concern we haven’t had a report.
8:10
Betty: We have a plan to approach the treasurer.
8:11
Ali: Is there a process for appointing a treasurer?
Andrew: The word just appears once in the constiutution, no standard.
8:11
Team Updates:
8:11
Woodworking
8:11
Bob by the end of next week a working table saw is expected to be installed.
8:13
Will need observation for usage and extraction - we’ll need to see how it is used.
Bob required guidance from trustees - for acceptable usage.
Andrew - it may become an induction machine
8:15
Also Bob may supervise members testing the use of the tablesaw - Possibly Saturday afternoon.
Andrew W suggests to use by supervision only to get an idea of safe usage - due to trapping issues and integrity of the fence. Can be used carefully without issue - We need to be confident if we have the table saw for general use.
We can deactivate / ban usage unattended of tablesaw
8:16
Amdrew: Suggests Lockout device purchased prior to assesment of the current too.
8:16
^tool
8:17
We have a way forward under control. Bob to look at securing tool and observation.
8:17
Craft
8:18
Betty about to restart induction for embroidery machine. Suggestion of £1 an hour for machine.
EMail members, note on Slack and on the machine.
8:18
Bob: Check if the card is left in the card reader - Betty- it is.
8:19
This should just need an HMS software change.
8:19
Betty - We need more inductors - currently just Betty and Sue.
8:21
Betty - Suggestion for team storage - Individual areas can have a filing cabinet local to the area.Similar to the ones in the kitchen.
8:21
Andrew W: need to think about utilation of space
8:21
Teams
8:23
Andrew A: Migration away from slack. Trial a move to discord - need to fix integrations with HMS and Bots. We’d lost history - this gets removed after 1000 messages anyway.
This has been a request from members and trustees.
8:23
Gareth: Q the discord history AndrewA: it’s permanent.
8:23
Threading may not be as good. Feature wise looks good. Also voice channels.
8:25
We can keep the discord private. Members only is more difficult, but potentially doable.
8:25
There are options for discord to be a better solution.
8:26
Gareth: Question about moderation.
8:27
Can we moderate the space if necessary? Do we need a ruleset or moderation. Especially if we’re ‘starting again’
8:28
Andrew - we can enable moderators and rules. Moderators are more flexible on discord.
8:29
Granular roles is possible. Individuals can be blocked on discord as a feature.
Betty: we can look into this in the trial.
8:29
Gareth: Explicit online rules could be useful.
8:30
Note Google group is completely out of control of the Trustees.
The google group is a useful public contact point.
8:30
We may be able to do something similar with discord.
8:31
Betty: For open night next week - it would be good to try to recruit people.
8:32
to teams.
8:32
Betty: We’d like to bring members meeting next month in person. Blue or classroom. Mark will chair.
8:33
We can run on zoom and in person
8:33
James: Would like to keep the online element possible - travel and parking isues.
8:34
Bike (Project) Storage and Large Storage
8:35
Concern over use of Bike Parking for Bike Project Storage.
Once storage was clear, one user brought 3 project bikes in. This is not an area that is covered by the rules explicitly at the moment.
8:36
There are complaints about available storage.
8:36
Andrew W: Reserve some space for bike projects and bike parking.
8:37
there does appear to be some turnover of bikes - it may not be long term.
8:37
There is some old 2019 stuff, and some active stuff being worked on.
8:37
Separate bike projects and bike storage/
8:38
James,: can we limit the amount of large projects - members may be bringing in multiple large projects. Can we limit this?
8:39
Andrew: there is not an easy answer for large projects / bikes. Lots of ideas.
Bring to members meeting.
Limit to Space
Limited to Time
8:40
we have no official space for bikes as large projects.
8:40
Betty: we currently have 3 months for large projects. Is this too long?
8:41
this may have been chosen as working with large projects is time consuming.
8:41
Betty: We don’t want to be used as a large project.
8:44
Andrew W: What do we do with large projects is a rabbit hole.
If we separate bike parking not for bike projects. So have a strict bike parking area.
Bike Maintence is near bike storage.
James: 3 month time period - is it worth checking on if progress is made / another sticker is added without progress.
Andrew: Discresion can be given if it looks like the space is being used as storage.
8:44
We can ask members to not store things at the space - but this is conversations with individual members.
8:45
Betty: do we need upstairs parking?
8:46
Andrew W: Current space has lots of doors. Not ideal. We may need a bike parking space somewhere else in the space. (edited)
8:47
Suggestions: extra upstairs bike parking. Also Steve is working on RFID for door.
8:48
Bob: are we ‘mountain out of a molehill’? - we have lots of space for bikes that are used as transport - the issue may be with bikes left for days.
8:49
Bob: It may be fair to reserve 3 slots as NOT FOR STORAGE.
Wiki says bike storage is not for project storage at all.
8:51
Currently no cats in the meeting.
Concern 2 bike spaces in the space could create extra issues. One space for bikes would constrain this.
8:52
Clearer signage - Bike parking can be for storage only.
Betty: Once we have cleared downstairs we may have a short term solution.
8:53
We’ll continue discussion on slack and work out signage and reasonable usage for projects.
8:54
We’ll look to contact the owners to see what the useage of the bike storage is.
8:55
Fire health and Safety.
8:55
Statement on the state of fire. After lots of work everything is back to normal.
8:56

8:56
Emergency lighting is targeted for next month.
8:56
Hackspace 3.0
8:56

8:56
AOB
8:57
Malcolm - Glad to hear progress is being made.
8:57
Meeting closed.
