There are a lot of LED Matrix displays around the hackspace. This page attempts to list them all!

The Matrix

Someone pick a better photo!

I wasn't sure what to call this one, but it's a dual colour display, built out of eight LT1441M modules. You can see more details of this display at LED Matrix. The display was put together by 'RepRap' Matt. The display alternates between showing a message published via Discord / IRC (using the !display command), and emails sent to the Nottingham Google Group.

Mini Matrix

Mini-matrix in the Craft Room

The Mini-matrix lives in the Craft Room, and is believed to be taken from a Class 465 train. It was put together by Daniel and (I think) only displays the message from the !display command.

Laser Display

The laser display in action!

This is the smallest of the Jasmin displays, having a resolution of 272x16. It lives above the laser cutter and predominantly displays now/next information for the laser cutter, but briefly displays new Discord messages as they come in. It was originally put together by Daniel, but at some point had a fatal accident (fell off the shelf). Aaron did a PCB to drive the display, which is also used on the other two Jasmin displays.

Train Departure Board

The train departure board showing train times

The train departure board is documented on the Train Station Display page and was a project done by Aaron. It primarily displays messages from Discord, with the channel name where the clock would be. It shows train times every 10-15 minutes from using the National Rail API (which get pushed to MQTT.

Studio Display

The studio dsplay saying Hack the Planet!

The studio display lives above the "Big H" in the Studio. It uses the same board as the Laser Display, but like the Train Departure Board, primarily shows messages from Discord. It also shows a reduced departure board, and periodically displays the now/next information for the laser cutter, too. The lights on the right show the status of the laser cutter, table saw, and a mystery light!

Electronics Display

The Electronics Area display

Very much the same as the Studio Display, showing the same information! For unknown reasons, some of the input logic was broken (think it was a quad NAND gate). It needs to be put on the wall - someone please make a bracket.

Non-LED Displays

Big Clock

The big clock lives in the dusty area, and isn't listed above because it's not really been hacked. It also uses florescent tubes, which are not LEDs. The display is LCD based, and hooked up to a radio clock. It just displays the time. We have two more of these on the shelves - they are a project waiting to happen for someone. Daniel has already reverse engineered them, and used them to play Tetris.
