The Portable Appliance Tester (PAT) is kept in the upstairs Members_Storage in red cabinet 2 on the left as you enter. It comes with a black case containing the unit, test leads and, in a pocket, instruction manual, instruction CDs, and a supply of Pass and Fail stickers.
The PAT can work with both 230V and 110V supplies and automatically switches according to the supply it is plugged into.
Warning: Mains voltage. The unit exposes mains voltage to its sockets and test leads. Observe handling precautions in the manual.
Warnings: Read the warnings on page 5 of the manual, and carefully follow the recommended procedures.
Only plug into the mains using the attached black cable. Never plug into the mains using the IEC "kettle" socket. (The red lead is for testing extension cables.)
Page 9 of the manual explains how to turn on the unit. Do not attach any equipment to be tested until the unit has successfully started up.
