Laser Optics
Here we will discuss the laser type and the optics systesm
Laser tube
Optics
Mirrors available from:
3 mirror system
Advantages
- Typically used
- Off the shelf
Disadvantages
- Needs regular calibration
- Must have accurate alignment
- After any movement this will need recalibration
2 mirror system
This has been suggested by russellh.
Two mirrors will be used along with a tracking system. The tracking system would have a motor on a driven rotating base. A UV LED is used for the tracking system. Each mirror would rotate to face the other. Use a hard drive motor and drive circuit along with a balancing control system. Russelh is working on a prototype to demonstrate the concept.
Advantages
- Auto-calibration (once set up)
Disadvantages
- Complexity
- Requires drive system
