This is the larger of two laminators on the shelves of the Blue Room.
The laminator can take paper or thin card sheets up to A3 in size and permanently embeds them in plastic. It can be useful for making robust copies of documents that will be handled a lot, such as in a classroom environment. It is also useful to make a template that can be used with drywipe pens.
Do not use lamination to preserve original important documents, as it is a poor method for long term preservation since it puts chemicals onto the paper. Do not use lamination on heat sensitive paper.
To use, put on a table with enough space front and back to support the document. Plug into the mains and turn on. The upper red LED will light up.
When the laminator has reached the correct temperature, the lower green LED will light.
Obtain a lamination pouch large enough to put the page into. Pouches typically open on three sides and have a closed side at one of the narrow ends. The inside has a light tack adhesive that will permanently bond with the page.
Arrange the page so the clear margins of the pouch are as desired. Smooth down the pouch over the page to remove air bubbles.
Insert the pouched page closed end first into the laminator until the laminator grabs it. The page will slowly go through the laminator to melt the glue. Do not attempt to make the page go through faster.
The emerging pouch will be hot, so make sure it can gently slide onto the table behind the laminator, to avoid warping.
