Evening Food

We were thinking about cooking some stuff in the evenings. Suggestions?

  • Bean stew and rice
  • Curry and rice or chips (Sam & Becky). Likely to contain coconut and peanut unless anyone objects. Won't be too spicy.

2 nights of food Thursday and Friday but not Saturday.

Tents and Stuff

Workshop Planning

10 tables and 30 chairs usually available.

Need to cover the 3 hours of non-Nottinghack events as well. Rota will be required probably for that too.

Talk/Workshop/Event Name Description Person Duration and Times It Can Charge? Capacity Notes
Morning Pop-Up Cafe We will be serving morning tea and coffee - please bring your own mug/flask or you can buy a mug from us (limited in supply!). We will also have some tea and coffee available through the day from a urn at our tent. Mike H and Stan Mornings 8:30 - 9:30 Friday, Saturday, Sunday (1 Hour) Yes kinda - charge for tea/coffee Lots May include pastries but primarily tea and coffee
Soldering Workshop (Beginners) Badge soldering workshop for people who haven't soldered before - you can learn how to solder with a simple LED badge kit! Younger children can do this with parental supervision. Andrew A, Aaron, Caroline (possibly) Yes (Maybe £3) Drop in sessions Use the badge kits - drop in sessions but we've limited places
Intro to Roleplaying Come along to join a table and learn how to play tabletop roleplaying games. You'll be provided dice, and follow a short scenario with your party! Andrew A, Duncan 2 game tables (up to 6 per table) No 3 hours. Friday afternoon 3-6PM. Booked on EMF Camp Website.
Mini POV 3 kits Build a mini-POV kit, which shows up words in the air at night when you wave it around. Jon (needs second person at least, maybe a 3rd) Friday 20:00 - 22:00 2 hours (to coincide with sunset) Yes (£10) 20
Draw Your Ideas for Kids Draw How to Make Toast for Kids is a simple, and fun design exercise that gets everyone to draw and share cool ideas while thinking about systems, purpose, context and toasted bread. Mike and Stan Friday 10:00 - 11:00, Sunday 13:30 - 14:30 No 20?
Arduino Workshop (Intermediate) An intermediate Arduino workshop to learn how to code and interface with an Arduino module. The price of the workshop includes the module and breadboard. If you don't have an Ardiuno we have them for sale at £20. A laptop is required to do the programming and uploading. Jason A, Duncan Saturday 10:00 - 12:00 (2 Hours) 10 People (paired people welcome) Yes (TBC)
  • Intermediate Arduino workshop
  • Interface with things
  • Libraries and importing and connecting things
  • Boards may be sold as part of the workshop
Mini Robot Event Build a mini fighting robot and fight them! There are limited places and the cost of the workshop includes all the kit materials to build a controllable robot. Sam, James S Saturday 15:00 - 17:00 (2 Hours) Yes £40 10 kits for robots Laser cut bits and solder everything beforehand. Actual building should be an hour. Maybe £30-40 kit or something (yes, and/or just have some loaners that people can donate to drive for a bit, could take a while to make stuff). No wifi control Sam has an alternative method. No soldering.

Confirmed base cost of bought parts is £32.50 - plus some materials and stuff, should be below £35 total so £40 cost (£5 "profit" as the Ferengi would say) seems reasonable.

This includes a standard RC receiver but no transmitter - we will have a couple available to buy (+£25) or alternatively the receiver can be swapped for one of Steve's WiFi boards for +£5.

Note- Hebocon (deliberately terrible combat robots) is also happening at EMF and we can coordinate with them to use our arena for fights and such.

Solargraphy Build your own pinhole camera to trace the path of the Sun from winter to summer. It only takes 10 minutes to create so feel free to drop in anytime during the session! £5 per camera - all materials provided. Gareth + Aaron Sunday 10:00 - 11:30 (1.5 Hours) Drop in sessions (50 cans) Yes (£5) Drop in session like Soldering irons. Film and cans ordered.
Tie-dyeing You'll learn and do tie-dying of a tote bag! Becky (probably needs second person) Sunday 12:00 - 13:00 £25? (TBC) 10? (TBC) Will be taking home in ziplock bag no drying on site so less boxes needed but need tote bags.

Is there a minimum number of seats we have to fill? Definitely want to limit the number of places. Practical workshops are pretty popular.

Think about what equipment we need, how long the session will be, how many would we need to attend, etc.

Non-Workshop Ideas

  • Snackspace / Tea Urn
  • Not-BarBot - if Jason wants to build one
  • Some kind of big artsy thing (MAYBE Ali)
  • Bottle Rockets :)
